Poi – a type of juggling originating from the Maori tribe in New Zealand. Originally, it was a prop consisting of a cloth bag filled with sand or seeds, attached to the end of a string. Their main use was in training young warriors, which allowed them to gain dexterity, wrist flexibility and arm strength. They were also used by women for dancing. Currently, poi juggling is practiced all over the world as fun, an art of meditation and an exercise that improves dexterity and coordination skills. In the last century, poi juggling became one of the basic skills of circus arts and was also implemented in fire dancing and fire shows. This summer, on the beautiful island of Naxos, Luiza will show you how to start this beautiful adventure with Poi fitness fun. Her love for poi was born out of her love for fire, music and moving meditation. This motto carries her through life “Be daring enough to be different, humble enough to make mistakes, wild enough to be burnt in the fire of love” Brennan Manning.
